So you won’t slap me – Meet Smokey, Snowy, and Wobble-Butt
People know that not only am I a woodworker, craftsman, business woman, and farmer, but I am a CRAZY CHICKEN MOMMA. I name and train my chicks – mostly because it’s fun and I can then tell them apart to watch how they grow.
I talk to them, have (one-sided) conversations with them, and they help me in the wood-shop.
I want you to meet three of my new crazy feather-babies. You too can follow along and be entertained by their quirkiness and see how they become layers (well some of them) to the greatest eggs you’ve ever tasted… just don’t slap me….
Meet Smokey:
Smokey is a 6 week old Americauna chick. She is starting to really get some nice grey tufts on her cheeks and she has a beautiful ashen grey hue to her neck and tail feathers (highlighted by a mix of darker grey, burnt red, and chestnut brown feathers in her wings). She is very attentive, curious, quick to flee the bigger hens, and loves to chase the smaller Americaunas around the pen. I love her Smokey color that extends to her feet as well. She is a sweetie with a splash of spunk.
Meet Snowy:
Snowy is another 6 week old Americauna chick but is smaller than Smokey. Snowy has a nice whitened belly and splashes of white around her face. Her wings are a mix of dark chestnut brown, black, and tan. She is quite timid but she will fill out nicely and mix in well with the others. Snowy is soft like the snow in touch and in heart. Her kind nature will make her a nice broody hen some day.
Meet Wobble-Butt:
Wobble-Butt was given to me by my Pap. When the bear came in and killed my two baby “roosters in-training”…lol, Pap stepped up and gave me this full-grown Bantam Rooster. He is elusive and won’t let anyone touch him, he doesn’t make friends well, he’s an out-cast, and he really tries to get on the backs of hens twice his size. He’s more akin to that sarcastic kid that just ends up annoying everyone.
He got his name “Wobble-Butt” because hey… you’d wobble too trying to walk while navigating each leg around all those feathers on your feet. He definitely wobbles when he walks and occasionally he turns his head to see if you’re staring at his butt. He’s neither offend nor does he get a complex when we stare and laugh at his butt – he just ignores us (but he is funny to watch).
So…. Thank’s for stopping by and meeting some of the feather-babies around the Misfit Farm. I’ll have more on, keep you updated, and if you hear me say “Don’t be a Wobble-Butt”, hopefully now you won’t slap me.
~ Sue 🙂
